Halal Certification

According to Islamic Shariah Laws, only Halal certified products can be used and consumed by Muslims. Halal term is applicable for food products, meat products cosmetics, food ingredients and food contact materials as well as pharmaceutical products. Halal certified products do not contain products and by-products of swine/pork, animals which are not properly slaughtered, alcoholic drinks and intoxicants, carnivorous animals and raptors, blood and its by products, food containing gelatin, enzymes, emulsifiers, and flavors.

What is HALAL certification?

Singapore Muis Halal Quality Management System (HalMQ) is a system-based and proactive approach towards achieve Halal Certification. Halal Certificate gives assurance that the products are thoroughly checked in accordance with the Islamic Shariah Laws by the concerned board. It is necessary for the producers to ensure their products sell/export are Halal certified with Halal seal to be accept and buy by Halal consumers/buyers.

HalMQ, a system based Halal requirements that is benchmarked against international ISO and HACCP standard, has since been made compulsory by Majlis Ugama Islam Singapore (Muis) for compliance by all Muis Halal applicants/certificates holders effective 1 January 2010 to meet rising expectations of Muslim consumers and ensure Halal compliance.

With HalMQ, it enhances the Halal compliance of organization as a more structured and systematic approach has been implemented, which further increase the credibility of Singapore Halal certification.

Step 1:
Desktop Audit

Application of HALAL certification online. Auditor will assess the application and request further information if needed through shortcoming notification/Request for Action.

Step 2:
Request for Action

Applicant to submit the requested information in the system before the deadline via License One.

Step 3:
Audit Inspection

Conduct internal audit/review to constantly re-evaluate the system and promote continuous improvement process.

Stage 4:
Recommendation and Approval

Auditor will recommend the application to Muis upon compliance to Muis Halal Certification Conditions.

Stage 5:
Post Certification

Applicant to update Muis by submitting a Change/Amend application if there is any changes to their Halal team, Muslim staff, supplier, products or ingredients/raw materials.
